HOW SOLAR HOT WATER WORKS

Solar water heaters work by absorbing energy from the sun’s rays in the roof mounted solar collectors and transferring this to heat water stored in the tank. Ground mounted direct systems (Loline) rely on an inbuilt circulator to push the water through the system, whereas roof mounted systems (Hiline) rely on a natural ‘thermosiphon’ effect. Water passes through the solar collector where it is heated, then moves out of the collector and into the tank. The tank gradually gets hotter until the water reaches its maximum stored temperature.

The Rheem Solar Hot Water Heaters range to suit you needs, including both split, ground mounted systems and complete roof mounted models in a variety of capacities from 160-410 litres.

GROUND MOUNTED SYSTEMS

Ground mounted systems use inbuilt pumps to push the fluid through the system. The split design of the system reduces the roof’s structural load, as only the low profile solar collectors are installed on the roof.

LOLINE

Rheem Loline® Solar water heaters use roof mounted solar collectors to absorb heat energy from the sun, which is transferred to water stored in the tank at ground level. These efficient collectors help reduce the production of greenhouse gas emissions. And, to ensure you have hot water all year round, Rheem Loline® Solar water heaters can be electric or gas boosted, with automatic electronic controls.

If you need an emergency replacement, you can run this water heater on its electric boost until your collectors are installed.

PREMIER LOLINE

Specifically designed for environments prone to frost, the Rheem Premier® Loline incorporates Drain Back heat exchange technology to maximise solar gain and protect against all weather extremes. The Premier Loline replaces water in the collectors with a special heat exchange fluid with anti-freeze properties. The design is both safe and efficient, as fluid drains out of the collectors to prevent freezing and heat loss in cold conditions, and overheating in hot climates.

ROOF MOUNTED SYSTEMS

Rheem’s roof-mounted solar hot water systems have storage cylinders made of either quality stainless steel or vitreous enamel coated mild steel. Stainless steel is prominent in most kitchens for its purity, aesthetics, ease of maintenance and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel acts as a natural barrier to corrosion, whereas vitreous enamel coated water heaters require a sacrificial anode. The outer casing of Rheem’s stainless steel solar range is constructed from weatherproof COLORBOND® steel. Rheem offer a choice of four contemporary COLORBOND® steel colours with their modern design roof mounted range.

HILINE 52L SERIES

If your home is in a temperate or tropical location, which is not subject to frost and you have good quality potable water, then the Rheem 52L Series system is ideal. This system operates on the natural thermosiphon principle, i.e. when water is heated it rises.

The 52L Series system directly heats the water as it passes through the collectors and then automatically circulates it back into the storage tank. This process continues whilst the sun is shining, giving you and your family ample hot water.

HILINE 52H SERIES

Designed for areas which experience frost or snow. It uses the highly efficient heat transferring properties of a special anti-freeze fluid to transfer the absorbed energy to heat the water indirectly. With an ‘indirect system’ water does not pass through the collector panels, instead the anti-freeze mixture is circulated from the collectors through a stainless steel heat exchanger, transferring the heat into the water.

The benefit of this ‘indirect’ heat exchange process is that the system can be used confidently in frost areas, without risking damage to the system; it offers protection against damage in freezing conditions.

HILINE 52S SERIES

The Rheem Hiline® solar hot water heater is ideal for warmer climates and areas with good water quality. It’s a great option when ground access is limited as the storage tank and solar collectors are mounted together on the roof.

The 52S Series system directly heats the water as it passes through the collectors and then automatically circulates it back into the storage tank. This process continues whilst the sun is shining, giving you and your family ample hot water.

HILINE 52C SERIES

Rheem Premier Hiline® is an indirect solar water heater specifically designed for environments prone to frost. Premier Hiline® models feature heat exchange technology, maximising solar gain whilst providing frost protection. Rather than directly heating water, special heat exchange fluid flows through the solar collectors to capture the sun’s energy. With its anti-freeze properties, this fluid will prevent freezing in the solar collectors down to -7°C.
